Tooth Whitening Trays

Teeth whitening trays that come with the Opalescence at-home teeth whitening kit are custom made to fit each patient perfectly. Custom made tooth whitening trays ensure that each patient is comfortable during the whitening process and that the whitening gel is properly dispersed over the teeth for optimum whitening results.

Whitening Reservoirs in Teeth Whitening Trays

On of the more important aspects of teeth whitening trays provided by Las Vegas cosmetic dentist Dr. Laurie is the whitening reservoirs. The trays are made with indents where your teeth are placed in the trays. The trays allow for a small amount of room between the tooth and the trays. This small amount of room allows the whitening gel to sidle up to the tooth and stay there for a greater efficiency in teeth whitening.

Over the counter teeth whitening kits come with trays that are meant to fit everyone. Most of the time, these trays are too big and they do not hug the teeth like custom made trays. The over the counter trays allow for too much room between the teeth and tray and the whitening gel does not get close enough to the teeth to whiten. Unlike the over the counter trays, the custom trays are contoured to the shape of each tooth. There is a whitening reservoir specific to each tooth for the best whitening results.

How Custom Made Teeth Whitening Trays are Created

If you choose to use the Opalescence at-home teeth whitening treatment, Dr. Laurie will have custom made whitening trays made specifically to fit your mouth. She will take an impression of your teeth and then will send the impression to a dental laboratory where a cast is created. The cast is used to create the whitening trays for you.

Before creating the trays, the dental lab technician applies liquid plastic to the cast and then cures the plastic to create a thin layer on top of each tooth. This thin plastic layer represents the amount of whitening gel that will be held between the tray and your teeth.

The technician then places a heated sheet of plastic onto the cast and vacuum molds it to contour the cast exactly. The thin plastic layer representing the whitening gel holds the plastic sheet away from the teeth leaving room for the whitening reservoir. The plastic tray is removed after it cools and then is adjusted as necessary to fit you perfectly.
